Introduction to Chinese Women of China Magazine Publishing House

 
 
  Chinese Women of China Magazine was born in 1939 in Yanan. Chairman Mao Zedong wrote the title “Women of China” twice, and also a poem to commemorated its publication. After 1949, the magazine became the official publication of the All-China Women’s Federation and it has witnessed the growth of several generations of Chinese women.
  The publishing house is enterprising. During the last decade it has expanded its titles to include Chinese Women of China, Good, Yueji·Self, and I Fashion, serving the interests of Chinese women at different levels.
   Chinese Women of China became a bimonthly in 1999. Every month, the first issue reports on women’s progress and provides psychological and health service for them; the second issue emphasizes legal service, rendering help to protect women’s rights. The magazine has undergone many changes, and won the second and third national awards in 2003 and 2005 respectively.
   Good was born in 2000 and it is a fashion and home magazine. With the slogan “Is there a good life without a good housewife”, it promotes science, health, and civilization. City wives have appreciated the value and lifestyle the title promotes and it has since become their regular reading.
   Yueji·Self is a monthly through copyright cooperation with Conde Nast Publications in the US. Aiming to promote psychological health, the magazine advocates, “You control your own happiness”. It encourages women to take care of themselves and pursue their own physical and mental health as well as happiness.
   I Fashion was born in 2004. The magazine is a joint effort with Times’ Weekly of Taiwan’s China Times. Through copyright cooperation it has set up a platform for cross-Straits exchanges between young women.
   The publishing house has also branched out to do other business apart from publishing.
   In 1998 it set up Beijing Huakun Film and Television Limited. Approved by the State Administration of Radio Film and Television, the company produces titles on women, and selects and recommends good programs for TV stations.
   In 2002, approved by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, it set up Huakun Women’s Life Survey Center. The center conducts social investigations and business surveys on Chinese women’s life and development, and publishes an annual report on Chinese women’s life quality. It has become an influential women-oriented survey institution.
   In 2004, it registered Huakun Women Consumption Guidance Center at the Ministry of Civil Affairs. The center conducts training for women on scientific consumption and related exchange activities. It also publishes information on women consumption and holds high-level conferences on consumption issues.
   Chinese Women of China Magazine Publishing House has also involved itself in many social activities for public good. Since 2001, it has held an annual event to choose Chinese Women of China’s Person of the Year, and the event has become popular both at home and abroad. To help rural women and build a new socialist countryside, the publishing house has helped establish over 70 “Xing Xing Huo” family reading rooms for rural women.
  Han Xiangjing, female, publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Chinese Women of China Publishing House. Winner of the National 100 Best Publishing Worker, she has worked in periodical publishing for 23 years. She also serves as vice chairperson of the National Periodical Association as well as the National Women’s Periodical Association.
